Banquet Facility

After years of neglect and abandonment, The Rex building, located on Main Street in the historic business district of Mt. Vernon, Illinois has recently experienced a “rebirth.”  After a multi-year renovation by EcoDigital Development Group, the fully restored Rex is now Mt. Vernon’s premier banquet and meeting facility.  This unique renovation included a strong emphasis on adaptive re-use of materials. 

Building materials harvested from the building during selective demolition were adaptively re-used as were salvage materials from other EcoDigital projects.  Rex roof coping tiles from the building were transformed into lighting fixtures and canopy steel from an old gas station were used as interior architectural elements.  The re-use of these materials not only minimized the waste stream from demolition but also created opportunities for local craftsmen and businesses who participated in the adaptive conversion process. 

The Rex project was high visibility, created a considerable level of excitement and catalyzed a renewed interest in the downtown area.
